Frog Gazing Ball

Along with my addiction for green, I also love frogs! This simple project is made from an old milk can, an old bowling ball, and small plastic frogs from Hobby Lobby. The large frog on top came from a toy store in St. George, Utah - which sadly is no longer in business, however I have seen this frog available online.

I found the bowling ball at one of my favorite vintage/antique stores in Salt Lake City - it was lovely blue marbleized color. The small antique milk can from one of my favorite vintage/antique stores in Ogden, Utah “Green Brick Store”.

I set the bowling ball on the top of the milk can, and starting by gluing the large frog on top using one of my favorite glues - “E-6000”. Make sure you use the clear color, it also comes in white. To make sure of the correct placement for the smaller frogs, I taped them in place using blue painters masking tape. When they were placed evenly, I carefully glued each one on with the E-6000 glue and re-taped them into place with the blue painters tape. Then I waited 24 hours for them to dry. Once I was sure the glue was dry, I painted the ball and the frogs using Rustoleum green metallic spray paint. This took numerous light coats of paint to get underneath the frogs, and achieve a good shiny coverage on the bowling ball.

This now sits as a happy green welcome to all who come to my door from Spring to Fall. It makes me smile inside each time I look at it, and smiling always bring Light!
