It’s Never Too Late To Decorate
/Christmas came quickly this year, and I’ve been a little sad that I didn’t get all the decorations up I had planned on. The trees didn’t make it to the front porch; however, I did get them re-potted, replacing the heavy rocks with spray foam, and that was a great accomplishment. They will make their new refreshed debut next year.
There were other decorations that didn’t make it up as well, but today I was able to cross one more wish off my to-do list, thanks to my granddaughter! I love it when the grands ask if they can stay over. I love it even more when I get one-on-one time with them, especially when they love to craft with me. My oldest grands are 16 and 13 and growing up fast! Both are taller than I am! They are beautiful inside and out, inheriting their mother’s kind and gentle heart.
They stopped to visit yesterday after church and Macey asked if she could stay overnight. Ronnie and I were both thrilled that she would ask, and immediately said yes! We watched the cutest Christmas movie called, “A Boy Called Christmas,” with Maggie Smith. Ron and I had never heard of this movie before, so when Macey suggested it, we were excited to watch something new. It was an excellent choice and had all the feels. Will definitely be adding this to our Christmas list of movies to watch during the Christmas season from now on.
Because we had such a late night, Macey and I slept in. Ronnie is always up before the sun, and he had already made his morning “Maverick” Diet Dr. Pepper run and made a trip to Costco before Macey and I were up and going for the day!
One of the things I wanted to accomplish before Christmas was to decorate some of the windows in the house with English-style, white line-art, villages. I remember painting our windows a few times as a child, and thought about doing something similar this year. As I researched ideas on the best applications to use in accomplishing this task, my idea took a detour. This happens a lot with many things I come up with. My brain is generally a traffic nightmare most of the time, but sometimes a great idea gets out of the traffic jam and becomes a lovely, completed project.
I had originally thought of designing some line-art village designs, printing them off, taping them to the outside of the windows, and then tracing the lines with white chalk paint markers. After further research, I discovered most of these markers are oil based and take a long time to dry. Not wanting to get paint on the back side of my cloth Roman shades, I began searching for alternatives. This is when I discovered these adorable, non-adhesive, vinyl cling window villages on Amazon! I ordered two different options, and I’m glad I did. The one I thought I liked the best was HUGE! The houses would have covered a large majority of each window. I wanted something smaller with stars and snow in the sky above the village.
This is the link to the one we ended up using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DCHXP5BT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the link to the bigger one, it would be cute on a sliding glass door, or a large picture window: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DDBR6ZMZ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
After we finished, we decided it would look better if the space below the lower grid in each window was filled with white. I searched Amazon and found this opaque, non-adhesive, frosted glass window film, in matte white. We’ll see if it works. I don’t want to block out any light shining through the windows, but I want it to match the matte white line of the village. Hoping it works! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MTA00AX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
Macey spent most of the day helping me apply these Christmas window cling decals to nine of our windows. What I thought would be a quick and easy project took a lot of time and patience!
They are a little tricky to apply and get the seams lined up. Macey did a great job and took the time to make each seam match. I also like them because they are reusable, and non-adhesive.
I’m not quite sure how I will store them when I decide to take them down. We almost had enough to do all the windows I had originally planned, but ran out just a few inches short on the last window. I’ve ordered one more set which will complete all nine windows, and give me enough to do one more window that Macey and I decided would be cute to add them to as well.
We like them so much; Ronnie and I have decided to leave them up until the end of February. January and February can be quite cold and dreary here in Utah with not much sunshine.
These little window villages bring LIGHT and a smile to my soul. And I hope they do the same for everyone who drives by and happens to see them. I love crafting with my grandkids and friends. There’s something about creating something that didn’t exist before that brings LIGHT, Joy, and Happiness to our hearts!
The challenge this week is to find something to decorate your home with that brings LIGHT into your life and a smile to the faces of all who enter! Let’s continue to “Light The World,” even if it’s a small place in our own homes. Have a great week!
Love Ya, Les 😊
