Lovely Lemons

I’ve always wondered why lemons get picked on – no pun intended?!!!  Especially when people say when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.  I love lemons, and I love lemonade!!!  In fact, I love all things lemon!  When I think of lemons, I think of yummy tartness – as in my Mother-In-Law’s homemade lemon meringue pie – something I’ve tried to recreate, but will never be successful.  She doesn’t measure anything with measuring cups or spoons.  It’s always a handful of this and a dash of that, and each time it ends in sheer perfection!  I also think of how much better my ice cold water tastes with a squeeze of fresh lemon in it.  Lemons are a happy yellow color, with a beauty all their own.  As we begin the departure of summer, I want to give one more shout out to some of my favorite lemony things before we launch head first into all things pumpkin spice.

My two favorite love languages are Gifts, and Acts of Service because to me these go hand in hand.  I love to give gifts and I love to serve.  This past summer I discovered some wonderful products from two of my favorite companies in the yummiest lemon scents!  “Thymes” – makers of the best dish soap.  And “The Body Shop” – makers of the best body wash and lotion.  These make the perfect gifts!!!  And both are available on Amazon!

“Thymes” also makes my favorite “Frasier Fir” dish soap which I have posted about before.  In fact they have an entire line of “Frasier Fir” scents that if you close your eyes, you will honestly smell like you are in a forest of pine trees.  Their dish soaps are my favorite because they make glassware sparkle like Cinderella’s glass slipper!!!  This summer I have been loving their new line of “Lemon Leaf” scents!  Both the “Frasier Fir” and the “Lemon Leaf” have clean fresh scents that leave no residue.  I’m excited to have one to use in the colder winter months, and one to use in the warmer summer months.  They also have a countertop spray that I also love and adore in both scents.

“The Body Shop” introduced their “Lemon” scent line earlier this year, and it smells just like a fresh cut lemon!  If you’ve ever used lemon zest (grated lemon rind) in any recipes, that is the exact smell of their incredible lemon products.  My favorite is the hand and body lotion, and the purifying hair and body wash.  I have to admit, I haven’t used it on my hair, but as a body wash the smell is intoxicating, you just can’t inhale enough!  The lotion is not greasy, but leaves you with a fresh clean lemony scent.  I also like the purifying hand wash.  As an expert germ-a-phobe, anything that has the word “purify” gets my stamp of approval.  All their products are made with the environment in mind and all that other good stuff.

According to the internet (and don’t we all believe EVERYTHING we read on the internet?), the sense of smell is the strongest sense because it is closely linked to memory retention.  Those with full olfactory function (that didn’t get knocked out by Covid . . . grrrrr) may be able to think of smells that evoke particular memories; such as the scent of an orchard in blossom conjuring up recollections of a childhood picnic. Or the smell of pine trees may bring fond memories of camping trips to the Uinta’s to mind.  Smell is considered the strongest and quickest memory inducer.  I can testify to the truth of that, as some smells remind me of how sick I was when I was pregnant with my kids 35 and 30 years ago.  However the scent of lemons has always invoked happy times filled with LIGHT.  So stretch a few more days, weeks, and maybe even a month or two more out of summer and bring some lemony goodness into your life with some of my favorite products!

Love Ya, Les
