Quotes – A Good Addiction To Have and Share!
/I’ve talked a lot about my in-laws and how amazing they are. Well there’s one more I want to introduce you to. Ron’s Great-Aunt Bessie. Aunt Bessie was a talented woman who could do just about anything. She could wield a needle and thread like no other. The clothing she made was incredible. She could decorate cakes like a pro. She even made John and Eileen’s wedding cake.
Because it was during the Great Depression, they couldn’t afford to make three layers of cake, so Aunt Bessie made the bottom two out of cardboard, and only the tiny top tier was real cake. But you couldn’t even tell, it was a masterpiece!
She was a poet, a storyteller, a creative genius who was fun, witty, a little mischievous, and positive even when she could have found life cruel and difficult – she saw the LIGHT and she lived her life serving others and being happy.
She had two children. Rosalie was the apple of her eye, but she was taken at six months old from pneumonia.
She also had a stillborn son. Aunt Bessie’s husband served in both world wars and sadly became addicted to alcohol. The wars and the alcohol changed him, and they divorced after Rosalie passed away. Aunt Bessie took the high road and kept her chin up.
She lived alone for the rest of her life in a tiny four room home in (Morgan) Milton, Utah. She served others every day, and treated her nieces and nephews as her own. At the end of her life, she was pretty much deaf and blind. When Aunt Bessie passed away at the age of 90, Ron’s mom Eileen was helping to go through her things. Eileen said she found little quotes written everywhere! It appeared Aunt Bessie was a collector of them!
When I heard this, I realized I do the exact same thing!!! I hear something that resonates inside my heart, and I write it down. I used to do the same thing Aunt Bessie did, I wrote them everywhere. My scriptures are full of them on all the empty pages. Eileen mentioned how fun it would have been if Aunt Bessie had written all the quotes in one place, so that we could have read her collection. Sadly, most of them all went into the garbage can.
That’s when I decided I was going to transfer all my quotes into one book, or many as the time goes on, and get rid of all the little scraps of paper and post-it notes.
I also have them pinned up in my office as daily reminders of good things.
Because of my love of quotes, and the meaning they have in my life, I have included a “Quote” section here on the Candle in the Window Blog.
I LOVE quotes that are uplifting, positive, and happy. I also like quotes that cheer me on when life is hard. I know life isn’t always cheerful and rosy, but reading through my quote books helps to lift my spirit when I feel down, or even helps me to adjust my focus and get back on track with the things that mean the most to me!
So if you’re into quotes like Aunt Bessie, or me, grab yourself a fun journal, and start writing them down! You’ll be surprised at how LIGHT will glow from the pages each time you open it!
Love Ya, Les
