What is it about a hammock that makes you smile?
/When we moved into our home in 2007 we had the dream of planting flowering pear trees all the way across the back yard spaced just perfectly to hang a hammock in between each one. It took many years of patience and waiting for the trees to get big and strong enough to hold them. Initially some of the trees struggled a bit, and then they got Blight in them. Blight is a fungal disease if not taken care of will eventually kill the tree. This was an expensive issue, but well worth the expense to have a professional tree company come and trim the affected limbs out, dipping their blades in bleach after each cut so as not to infect the rest of the tree, then having them sprayed with copper twice a year, in addition to a deep root fertilizer in the fall. We were instructed to put iron spikes in a circle around each tree at the root line. This helped bring the leaves back to a lovely dark green color instead of the light lime green yellow color they were turning. We learned that when the leaves on these trees turn that color, they are deficient in iron.
In 2020 one of Ron’s customer’s gave him a nylon hammock made to be tied between two trees or posts. We tried it out, and quickly decided we needed one for each available space in-between the trees. We ordered these from Amazon, and not only are they economical, they are so much fun and just the perfect size! We used them a lot during the time we were all stuck at home during Covid. Last year we were in a severe drought here in Utah, and sadly because our entire yard was pretty much dead, we didn’t go out in the yard much, and didn’t put the hammocks up at all. This year however, it’s been a totally different story. We’ve had plenty of moisture to make our yards green and lush again. A few weeks ago the grandkids were over and asked if we could hang the hammocks up. Grandpa Ronnie, and one of their dads were good sports and hung them all. I love seeing the happy faces filled with LIGHT as they enjoy the beautiful Utah weather, swinging beneath the shade provided by the canopy of leaves above them. There’s something soothing about lying in a hammock!
So if you’re looking for an inexpensive item to add to your backyard with mature trees, this is the ticket! You won’t regret it. They fold up inside their own attached pocket, and are easy to store. Fill your day with LIGHT and take some time to relax and snooze as you gently sway in your backyard hammock.
We ordered ours from Amazon and they come in a fun variety of pretty colors! They are made by Kootek, and we got the double or large size. These easily fit two people comfortably with a 500 pound weight limit – just make sure your tree limb can handle that much weight. :) Here’s the link:
