Lake Powell

I have many happy memories of going to Lake Powell from the time I was about twelve to now.

This past weekend, Ron and I had the opportunity to go down for a week of rest and relaxation with some lifelong friends.

We haven’t been since before Covid, and we were way overdue for a week of recharging our batteries!

My idea of camping is a flushing toilet, a hot shower, a full kitchen, air conditioning, unlimited ice, Dr. Pepper Zero, yummy food, and a nice cozy bed.

All of these are fulfilled on the “Kokopelli” - the houseboat we stayed on at Hall’s Crossing Marina at Lake Powell. It has all these things and more!  I prefer to stay in the slip at the marina instead of going out on the lake.

That way you can enjoy ALL the comforts of home connected to unlimited fresh clean water and electricity, while lazily swaying with the gentle waves on the lake.

I wasn’t ready to let go of summer yet, and last week did not disappoint.  The temps were in the 80’s during the day, and down into the 60’s at night.

We only had one day that was overcast and a little windy, but nothing too bad.  The rest to the days were blue skies and sunshine to warm my tired bones.

Ron and I prefer to sleep up on top of the houseboat under the stars.  The “Kokopelli” is equipped with folded cushions to throw your sleeping bag down on, but I added a twin size blow-up mattress on top of the pads, and it was almost as comfy as our PURPLE mattress here at home.

This blow-up mattress is the same one I use in our little tents for Grandma Camp, and I order them from Amazon.  We use them every time the grandkids come over for sleepovers, and they’ve had a lot of use!  I haven’t had one get a hole in it, and they also hold their air nicely.

They come with a pump with duel cords.  One can plug into a normal household electrical plug, and the other can plug into a car or boat.  There is also a really nice backpack type nylon bag big enough to hold the mattress, which I fold into thirds and then roll up, and a separate drawstring nylon bag to hold the pump/cords.  I also keep a quilted mattress pad cover and a fitted sheet in the backpacks here at home that I use when the grandkids are here.  These are currently on sale for $38.97 which is a steal for the quality, they are normally $79.99!  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S36P8JR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

We have another couple of friends who own “Klymit” – a camping store here in Kaysville.  They have a website you can order from as well as the physical store.  They gave us each one of their “Drift Camp Pillows” a few months ago.  I’m pretty picky about my pillow, but decided I needed to try and condense what I normally take, so Ron and I took our new camp pillows to try out.  They are a little smaller than my normal pillow, but it wasn’t an issue at all.  We both loved our new pillows, and the pillow case is genius!  You can slide your pillow up and down inside the pillowcase.  One end is a waterproof protective cover to keep your pillow clean and dry white traveling, the other end is a nice soft knit fabric that is so soft to lay your head on!  Here is the link to this fabulous pillow!!! They would make great Christmas gifts!  https://klymit.gathroutdoors.com/products/drift-camp-pillow?color=green+-+regular

Lake Powell is one of the most beautiful places on earth!  I could sit and look at the tapestry designs on the red rock canyon walls, nature is a talented artist.

The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold.  We had a couple little sprinkles on two different nights, but we still slept on the roof of the houseboat.

We saw shooting stars and the Milky Way every night but the two nights it rained.  Life has been crazy busy for me, and this past week was the first time in a year that I’ve been able to truly rest and relax.

The drive home from Halls Crossing is desolate and wild, but the beauties of nature are awe inspiring at every turn!  I even saw a little coyote running around dep down in one of the river bed washes!

Utah has such a diverse geological makeup, and is totally different up North where we have our big tall granite mountains and ski areas.

The South is much hotter, drier, and filled with red rock beauty as far as the eye can see!

Do yourself a favor, unplug, recharge, and fill your buckets!  If you can’t get to Lake Powell, then do it at home.

It’s a little harder to do at home, but it can be done.  You will find your life filled with LIGHT as you recharge your batteries, and clear your mind of the worries you carry every day.

It’s ok to put them on the shelf for a few days.  Then you can tackle them with renewed strength, energy and vigor!

Love Ya, Les :)
