Harriet The Hummingbird Update…
/This week’s post is short and sweet. A couple weeks ago I posted about a darling hummingbird who chose to build her nest on top of one of our Edison lights on the front porch. We have all LOVED watching her sit on her tiny little nest, and wondered if there were any eggs in it yet, and if so how many?
Last week on the 4th of July, Harriet left her nest for a little bit. While she was gone, we carefully took a quick photo, and discovered there are two eggs nestled in the bottom! Harriet returned a short time later, and snuggled in for a long night of loud and smoky neighborhood fireworks. This didn’t seem to faze her in any way, she patiently sat on her nest, and ignored what was going on around her.
We’re not sure exactly when she began building her nest, but I wrote the first post on June 18th. We are hopeful in the next week or so, to see two tiny baby hummingbird heads poking out of the top of their mother’s carefully crafted nest!
Watching this tiny miracle unfold just inches away from our front window has brought LIGHT and joy and happiness and excitement to so many people! We are hopeful all goes well, and that soon we’ll be welcoming two new baby hummers to the “charm”, which is the proper name for a group of hummingbirds. I can’t think of a better name than that… for they are truly “charm-ing” to watch!
Have a great week! And look for the tiny miracles that surround us each day!
Love Ya, Les :)
