4th of July

This year the 4th of July was a heavy one.  We celebrated the founding of this great nation that even with the many issues we face, it is still filled with the freedom that no other nation on earth enjoys.  We are truly blessed no matter what political party we belong to.  May God continue to bless the U.S.A.

But then we heard about the flooding in Texas where many people lost their lives, including innocent children attending summer camp along the river.  We never know what tomorrow will bring.  Which is why it is so important to hold our closest friends and family close.

As a mom and Grandma Les to my own littles, I can’t even comprehend the pain these poor families are experiencing.  My heart aches for their loss.  They are in my constant prayers, along with the hope that Jesus took these precious little ones into His arms in Heaven quickly.  Tragedies such as these bring out the good in people.  Brave and courageous people run toward the danger.  I believe this is a God given instinct to save and protect.  May they be blessed and protected in their righteous service!

When things like this happen in the world, I pray first, and then look for opportunities to serve.  We can donate to reputable funds to help those in need.  I do this through my church donations where Ron and I are able to specify “Humanitarian Donations” on our donation slip.  I fully trust in our Church to donate it where it is needed most at the time, as a big focus of our Church is to serve those in need throughout the world.  Humanitarian service is important to me.

After donating to the cause, I look for ways to serve those around me.  I had already prepared a couple little 4th of July packages to drop off to a couple people in our neighborhood.  We are so blessed to live in a place where neighbors serve each other on a daily basis, and look out for one another. These little treat packages seem insignificant now, after all that happened on the 4th, but even a small act of service makes a difference.  Every small act of service brings glimmers of LIGHT, and the world needs LIGHT right now.

These little packets included cookies from my favorite cookie place in Salt Lake City, “Ruby Snap”.  https://rubysnap.com I also included a patriotic dishtowel, and a couple jars of jam and honey from our recent trip to Eagle Idaho.  I tied them up with tiny ribbon bundles and a whitewashed metal star.

We can’t do anything about the tragedies that come along, but we can always pray, and then look for ways to bring LIGHT into the lives of those affected, in addition to those who live close around us.  The challenge this week is to look for ways to serve those whose hearts are grieving.  May you be blessed to surround yourself with those you love, and be sure to give each one an extra long hug as you tell them how much you love them!  Take care my friends!

Love Ya, Les 😊
