Lake Powell – Heaven on Earth

On the Utah Arizona border lies a hidden gem – Lake Powell.  It has more shoreline than the Pacific West Coast of the United States!  I’ve been blessed to visit this lake since the 1970’s and each time it has been a completely different experience.  When we first started going the lake was still filling up.  Access to ancient Indian ruins was always a highlight and an easy hike.  These days, it takes much longer to get to them with the lake level at record lows and involves miles of hiking.  Many say it’s not worth going because there’s no water.  This is not true.

No matter what the level of the lake is, there has always been enough water to enjoy the natural red rock beauty of Lake Powell, and this time was no exception.

Sunrise and sunset are unreal.  Visiting at this time of the year, the weather is perfect and the crowds are gone.  The silence is quiet and sacred.

Boat launching has become a bit of a challenge, but the lake managers are doing their best to keep up with the changing lake levels to accommodate launching smaller boats.

We have been blessed to enjoy the luxury of our longtime friend’s houseboat, which is docked at Halls Crossing at the northern end of the lake on the Utah side.  Driving from Kaysville is about a five-hour drive.

We were indeed shocked when we caught our first glimpse of the lake and how low it really is right now, but that did not put a damper on our week of rest, relaxation, good food, and great friends!

My wish for you this week is to gather some friends or family and go outside to rediscover nature!

It will bring LIGHT into your soul as you take in God’s handiwork.  And the best people to do this with are those who are your closest family and friends.  Have a wonderful week!

Love Ya, Les 😊
