Grandma Camp Mattress and Bedding
/I promised in last week’s post to talk about the blow-up mattresses I ordered for our 2019 Grandma Camp. Because I did so much research to find all the components for the tents, I decided to include all the links for the entire tent, not just the mattress. The tents have now been used numerous times over the past year, and have experienced some heavy duty use from little kids and big kids alike – they LOVE to jump on the mattresses which I highly discourage, however we haven’t had one pop or get in a hole in it yet!!! These things are durable!!!
Amazon has become many of my best friends over the past year!!! We have a Prime account, and I really feel it’s worth it with free shipping and free returns. Hoping the one and two day shipping returns soon, Covid has thrown so many wrenches into what used to be our “normal” daily lives! First World problems . . . I know . . . We truly are so very spoiled and greatly blessed!!!
The air mattress is only single high, so for us older people, it takes a little more effort to get up and down from it. However, because I didn’t want to make the tents too tall, I went with the lower single height mattress. This is honestly a very comfy mattress for what it is. I LOVE my king size PURPLE mattress, but for one night of Grandma Camp, or three nights at Girl’s Camp outside in tents with a church youth group, this is a great option! It comes with everything you need. The mattress, a great pump with two cords: One plugs into the wall, the other one can plug into your car. The pump has three different size nozzles, and will inflate as well as deflate the mattress in no time! The pump has its own little drawstring bag, and the mattress comes in a nice drawstring backpack type bag. This bag is large enough to fold the mattress into thirds, roll it up and it fits nicely in the bottom. I also put a nice quilted mattress pad cover on it. This keeps the mattress cleaner, and gives another layer so you don’t sweat from laying on a flocked/plastic mattress. I fold the mattress pad cover into thirds as well and roll it up. It also fits nicely in the bag with the mattress.
I ordered a pack of inexpensive white sheets, and a soft warm fleece throw blanket that fits the mattress perfectly!
Here are the links and information on all the bedding and accessories I put together for our Grandma Camp Tents.
The mattress is an EnerPlex Never-Leak Camping Series Twin Camping Airbed with High Speed Pump. Luxury Twin Size Air Mattress Single High Inflatable Blow Up Bed for Home Camping Travel – Grey/Black

These lace panels will work for the covering of the PVC pipe tent frame. You will need two panels for each tent. You can use the attached valance for the back of the tent, but you will need to unpick it first. These also wash up nicely in case you need to wash them. I used old curtain panels someone gave me. The unpicking part is not very fun, but oh so worth it!!!

For the top roof on the outside of the tent I used one single layer 70” round cotton tablecloth made in India with a hippie/boho theme, and two 66” x 46” rayon sarongs from Turtle Island Imports. They sell their items on Amazon as well. I included the link below for the rayon sarongs. I used two different prints on each tent. The colors matched, but the print was different on everything.

These are the heavy duty plastic tubular hangers I used inside the dress bag. One hanger is large enough and strong enough for the lace cover, 70” round tablecloth, and both sarongs. I love these hangers and use them for many other things besides Grandma Camp.

The girls brought their own pillows and I gave them a white handmade flannel pillowcase with an accent of large wide rick rack in their favorite color. This gave them three big pillows to prop up and get comfy when we watched our movie.
These tents are a lot of work, and very time consuming. However, they will last forever if they are taken care of. I hope my littles use them for their own children someday!!! Who knows, maybe I’ll have to start doing “Great-Grandma Camp” by then?!!!! The excitement and “LIGHT” in their faces each time we use these tents makes all the time, effort, and cost worth it!!!
So go all out and make some tents of your own, or you can scale it down and just do the mattresses and a soft blankie. No matter what you do, the most important thing is that your littles know they are loved and have your undivided attention when you are blessed to have them around. Time is precious, and one of the best gifts we can give.
Love Ya, Les ☺
