If At First You Don’t Succeed . . .

Recently my printer died and I had to get a new one.  This is never one of my favorite things to do.  I don’t know if any of you are like me, but I struggle with change.  This week I needed to make more wedding cards, and thought it would be a great project to get to know my new printer with.

I’m so glad I chose an easy project, but I was still sad when I ruined a lot of paper trying to get this new printer figured out!  Oh how I wish my brain came with a USB port to download new and confusing information directly into my brain!

Patience is NOT one of my strong suits, especially when I’m trying to get something done and things are not working out how I had planned.  Even now, I’m still not quite sure which way to load the paper into the printer for it to print on the side of the paper I need it to, not to mention all the extra clicks I need to make in order for it to print in the correct direction of portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal).

This is quite obvious from the pictures of some of my errors.  As my computer guru tells me quite often, I have a serious error, it’s the “I-D-10-T” error.  The first time he told me this, I asked him if that error is really bad.  He told me it’s one of the worst errors you can ever get, and often it can’t be fixed.  I asked him what it meant and how could I fix it?  He told me to write it down.  That’s when I realized what it really meant “idiot” = “I-D-10-T”.  I must admit, I am not a techy girl, and often need lots of help to figure technical things out!  It’s painful for me to use the right side of my brain, when the left side is so much more fun!!!

At any rate, after walking away for many Diet Coke breaks, I finally had success, and was able to get the cards printed that I need for the weddings.  Sadly, those weddings snuck up on me, and the cards will be arriving after the fact, but at least they will still be received in the same month as the wedding.

The cards themselves are simple.  I cut two hearts the same size, and one small one.  The small one is folded in half, and glued on the inside of each larger heart to form the “fold” of the card.  But when I made these cards, I decided they needed something . . . that’s when I thought of embellishing them with some handmade vintage lace I found, on one of my “Secret Life In Salt Lake” treasure hunting days many years ago.

For the longest time, I wasn’t even sure what to do with this lace.  I have enough to make quite a few cards, and plan to use it in this manner until it’s gone, or until I think of something else to do with it whichever comes first. :)  I cut the hearts and the envelopes on my Silhouette Cameo, which I love!  I wish I had more time to play with this machine, the sky is the limit on what you can create!

The moral of this story is, if at first you don’t succeed, keep trying!  You’ll eventually figure it out!!!  And if you can’t, ask someone who can help you.  When we learn to do new things, LIGHT enters our lives, and we are able to share our time and talents with others!

If you’re having a dreary January, look for ways to be creative to bring LIGHT back into your life!!!  The days are already getting longer, and before we know it, spring will be here!!!

Have a great week!  Love Ya, Les :)
