Pretty Blue Flowers

A couple weeks ago I was commissioned to create two small faux floral arrangements for an older couple in Idaho.  This cute couple recently moved into a tiny modular home.  This is a second marriage for both, and together they have 14 children, all of whom are out on their own.  His first wife endured years of costly medical issues before she passed a few years ago.  He remarried, and the new couple have been excited to get into a home of their own again.

These arrangements went into a room with one small window, a couch he brought to the marriage, two tiny side tables she brought to the marriage, and a small corner desk.

This room will get a lot of use, and it was an honor for me to be able to add a little color, texture, and warmth to their home.  The lovely woman is now looking for the perfect piece of artwork to hang on the wall above the couch.

The room is extremely neutral.  The best thing about that was having an empty palette to begin turning this house into a home.

His favorite color is blue, and she likes it too, so I went with two small blue and white Chinoiserie (pronounced shin-wah-zer-ee) vases I found on Amazon, and some gorgeous flowers from Modern Display in Salt Lake City, Utah.

I went with a calming blue, cream, and soft green color palette for the faux flowers.  Faux flowers have come a long way in the past few years!

Some look and feel just like the real thing, but keep in mind, in this regard you pretty much get what you pay for!

The really nice ones are a bit pricey, but they also last much longer and hold up better.

The best way to clean faux flowers is to use a can of spray air, like you use to clean your computer keyboard.  This helps remove any dust that might have accumulated while also protecting the delicate flowers.

Ron and I drove them up a week ago, and they absolutely loved them.  Flowers help bring LIGHT and joy into the difficult days of our lives.

I love serving others and using the talents I’ve been blessed with to do that.  I hope these two arrangements are the beginning of a few more lovely things to surround this sweet couple who have sacrificed so much in life for others.

I want to mention a few things here about hanging artwork.  Most people hang their pictures way too high.  The general rule of thumb for hanging pictures is to place the center of the artwork at approximately 57 – 60 inches from the floor.  This height generally corresponds to the average eye level.  You shouldn’t have to strain your neck up or down to look at the artwork.  Keep in mind this is only a guideline.  You can adjust it slightly up or down based on the room’s design and your personal preferences.  For larger pieces, you might consider hanging them a little higher, placing the top of the artwork just above eye level.  The height of artwork over a sofa should be hung so that the bottom of the frame is about 6-12 inches above the top of the sofa to create a more balanced look.  If you have high ceilings, consider hanging the artwork a little higher, but still within comfortable viewing range.

Hope you have a wonderful week, and look for ways to make the world around you and those you love a more beautiful place!

Love Ya, Les 😊
