Grandma Camp comes to life – Part Two -2019

The day of Grandma Camp finally arrived!!!  Ron helped me get everything set up so the cars would be in place, and ready to go when the girls arrived.  Oakley, my oldest granddaughter helped me choose the movie that everyone would enjoy – Sleeping Beauty.  I’ve always loved this one because of her dress at the end that changes from blue to pink and back again.

I had previously ordered popcorn buckets and drink cups with lids that I personalized with Oracal 651 permanent waterproof vinyl – all from Amazon.  I cut their names on my Silhouette Cameo, and applied them to each popcorn bucket and drink cup.  I also found out beforehand what their favorite candy treat was and had all of these things in a cute plastic basket I found at Hobby Lobby – also personalized with their name in vinyl.  They were perfect to keep all of their things contained, in one place, and next to their cars.

We played “Don’t Eat Pete”, did some crafts, made home-made individual size pizzas, got our jammies on, and then settled in to watch the movie.  When it was over, they wanted to sleep in their cars!!!  We started another movie, and then the girls decided a blow-up air mattress would be more comfy.  So we moved the cars out of the way, blew up the air mattresses and watched the other movie until everyone was asleep.

The next morning, Grandpa Ronnie made home-made waffles topped with vanilla ice cream and my homemade strawberry jam.  Then we played more games, did some more crafts, had lunch and their parents came to pick them up . . . along with their cars and all their goodies.

Before they left they all asked if we could do this every year, and the answer was ABSOLUTELY!!!!  This first Grandma Camp was a practice run to see if the girls would enjoy it enough to make it a tradition.  They now ask about it numerous times a year, and count the “sleeps” until it’s time again.  As soon as they left, the wheels began turning for Grandma Camp 2020 . . . little did we know in the summer of 2019 the Covid Pandemic was on its way to the United States, and would have a worldwide impact on our daily lives.

I didn’t know if Grandma Camp 2020 would be able to happen . . . but in my following posts you will see how Covid helped me see the blessings of family and time spent together as soon as it was safe to do so. One of the greatest gifts we can give is our time.  Time is precious and I LOVE spending time with and for my littles!  Grandkids are the payoff for surviving your own children’s teenage years! ☺   Even in times of trouble and strife, if we look for it, the LIGHT is ALWAYS there.

Love Ya, Les ☺
