I know it’s been a while since my last post, but we are back and I’m excited to share what’s been going on in life as we continue to do our best to Light The World!

Grandma Camp was another hit this year! With the grands getting older and adding our two boys to the collection of girls, I’ve had to learn to pivot and plan things a little differently. The boys like to do crafts; however, as they get older, they want to do more boy things. I sat down and had a visit with my oldest grandson and asked for his advice – he’s 7. He wanted to play backyard baseball, kickball, cornhole, and do the same bounce house that we did last year.

I ordered a fun wiffle-ball backyard baseball set, a kickball that wouldn’t fly over the neighbor’s fence, pulled the cornhole game out, and contacted our favorite bounce house place – Jumpolines Party Rentals. https://www.jumpolines.com The games were fun, but the weather was HOT!!! I wish we could have played each one longer than we did, but the heat won that battle.

We still had lots of fun, and the kids were in and out of the house to cool down and go back out again. The bounce house is perfect in between game and craft activity, I highly recommend!

Because it was so hot, we went through over 50 cans of Sprite, a bottle of Torino Grape Syrup, and almost 4 large bags of limes from Costco making our signature Grandma Camp Drink – lime rickey’s. If you are interested in our recipe we use one can of sprite over ice, two full pumps of grape syrup with a partial third pump, mixed with the juice of one full lime. We leave the fixings out for them to make their own anytime they want. We kept the Sprite cold in our beverage fridge from ROCCO which we absolutely LOVE! We ate all the traditional Grandma Camp food, watched “Sandlot” for our Friday night movie, and played hard.

The Grandma Camp store was also busy as the kids were able to spend their well earned “Kindness Coins”. After each event, the winner won a Grandma Camp ribbon. There were no participation awards at Grandma Camp.

I feel it’s important for kids to learn to be gracious winners as well as good sports when they don’t win. Kindness coins were awarded for the positive behaviors in all the games. We also gave out Grandma Camp ribbons for the crafts and stories the kids wrote, judged by Grandpa Ronnie and our two oldest granddaughters. Can’t wait for next year!
