Spring Flowers!
/Yesterday was the first day of spring . . . however, here in Utah, Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. It was a mixed bag of rain and blustery snow, with the darkest of black clouds. We have been in the midst of severe drought here in the West, and I am so very grateful for the heaven sent moisture we have received this past winter. With that said, it has been a cold dark dreary winter and my heart yearns for LIGHT! The warmth of the sun on my face, blue skies, and soft emerald green grass under my toes.
As much as I LOVE Christmas, I look to Easter with revered LOVE and gratitude for our Savior Jesus Christ! I know warm days are coming as Easter draws near, and I imagine feeling the same way when Jesus returns again to lead, save and love us with His LIGHT!
One thing that helps get me through the last dark days of winter, is walking into Costco and seeing shelving carts full of tulip jars! I makes my heart sing with happiness!!! It is one of the first signs of spring, and I know my beloved Swiss peonies will soon be making their yearly appearance in our yard as well.
There is something special about spring flowers. They are simple, and grow in a way that they arrange themselves in the most perfect way – even if that environment is a glass jar! This year I have enjoyed three special gifts of Spring flowers so far.
The first, a heartfelt jar of daffodils from a new friend in celebration of her daughter who passed some years ago. I never knew daffodils smelled as yummy as these did. I enjoyed them every day for well over a week, and pressed one in a book to save as a remembrance of a precious experience in St. George, Utah.
The second, another heartfelt gift from a dear friend who is more like a sister, I have now known for many years. A hyacinth bulb also in a glass jar. This stunning pink flower bloomed quickly, and also smells like Heaven! This lovely flower came after two extremely grueling weeks, and on a day when I really needed some LIGHT! A reminder that we are surrounded by angels on both sides of the veil at all times.
The third, my favorite Costco tulips which Ron and I will deliver to a dear couple we visit often.
There are many ways to share and accept LIGHT in our lives. It’s just as important to receive as it is to give. For most of us it’s easy to give, yet difficult for us to receive. I am grateful for the opportunities in my life where I have been blessed to experience both, however, the receiving part is still something I am working on. Spring flowers are gifts from our loving Heavenly Father as a promise of new life, and a restoration of LIGHT after a dark winter.
May we look for opportunities to serve, and in so doing to share our LIGHT . . . possibly even with spring flowers. :) Have a wonderful week, and Happy Spring!!!
Love Ya, Les :)
