Best Easter Basket Ever!

A few years ago I was searching for the perfect basket to deliver some Nativity dinners to our married children and their families in.  The year was 2020 to be exact.  We were all in quarantine and stuck inside our homes due to the new and scary Covid outbreak.  I remember feeling sad because we were not able to do all the traditional holiday things we have done for as long as I can remember.  I missed my kids and grandkids.  We had to door-bell ditch Thanksgiving Dinner to each of our kids and their families.  I felt bad leaving their meals on their doorsteps in tin foil pans and paper grocery sacks.  I decided our Christmas Nativity Dinner needed something more worthy of the celebration.  I needed the perfect basket because I wanted the presentation to be as lovely as the dinner that would go inside it.

I could see the desired basket in my mind, and began searching the internet in earnest.  I couldn’t find anything even close on Amazon, or many of my other usual online stores.  So I broadened my search and found these baskets made by Old Order Amish families in America’s Heartland - Ohio, Iowa and Missouri.

The quality of these baskets is the best I’ve ever seen, each handcrafted by an Amish family whose sole survival is dependent on selling their baskets through the www.AmishBaskets.com marketplace.  The baskets are made the traditional way that has been passed down from one generation to the next for over one hundred years.

Because many Amish families depend on tourists to purchase their goods, I learned these families were struggling.  I love to support worthy causes, and wanted to do my part to help these talented families in this time of great uncertainty.  I ordered three of the Garden Gathering Baskets and couldn’t wait for them to arrive!  When I opened the box, I could not believe the workmanship and quality of these handmade works of art - heavy duty, and made to be used.  This is one of those items that you get what you pay for.  Yes, they are a little pricey, but know these baskets are hand crafted to last forever if you take care of them.  Each one is signed by the family who made it, making it even more special.

I lined each one with a homespun cotton dishtowel, trying to find colors to match the homes they were going to. And then waited for the day to prepare the meal, fill the baskets and drop them off.  It brought so much LIGHT into our lives as we visited from afar, yet were still able to accomplish our yearly tradition.

Since then, I have ordered many more of this same basket for other types of gifts.  Each one has brought such LIGHT, joy, and happiness to the recipient.

Last year I wanted to put together some Easter baskets for our kids and a couple of Elderly couples in our neighborhood.  I ordered the Egg Baskets for our kids, and the Medium Oval Easter Basket for the other two.  The quality of these baskets was as good as I expected, but decided I do like the baskets with the wooden bottoms on them better than the ones that are all woven like the egg baskets.  Also, the egg baskets tip over easier.

I prefer the plain basket color, however you can also order them with traditional dark green and dark red bands at the top edge as well.

So if you’re looking for the perfect Easter Baskets for the favorite people in your life, check these out!!!  It will be the last Easter basket you will ever have to buy, they are made that well!  LIGHT always shines when we are helping others to help themselves, and when we give of ourselves to others.  These baskets serve a two-fold mission.  One helps Old Order Amish Families to sustain their families and simple way of life.  The other serves those we gift them to.  Nothing tells someone you love them more than a well thought out gift you personalize to fit the receiver.  Easter is a time of reflection and a celebration of new life.  May we all remember HIS LIGHT, and the gift of the Atonement during this blessed sacred time of year.

Happy Easter, Love Ya, Les :)
