Once a month in our church we have what is called “Fast and Testimony Meeting”. Usually this is on the first Sunday of the month. The purpose of Fast and Testimony Meeting is to partake of the sacrament and strengthen one another by bearing testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel. Members are encouraged to come to the meeting fasting if they are able to fast. All are invited to attend no matter what church or religion they belong to. In a fast and testimony meeting, there are no assigned speakers or special musical selections as is customary on the other Sunday’s of the month. Instead, the person conducting the meeting bears a brief testimony. He then invites members of the congregation to bear their testimonies. To bear testimony means to declare gospel truths as inspired by the Holy Ghost. Testimonies are brief so that many people can participate. Young children are welcome to bear testimony in this meeting as well as adults. It is encouraged for them to learn to do so at home until they can bear testimony without help from others.

This was a little bit of a long introduction to the story I want to relate about the meeting we had this past Sunday. A little girl got up to bear her testimony. Halle shared how she is trying to learn how to feel the spirit in her life. I am hard of hearing, and her little voice was difficult to hear at times from where I was sitting. But I’m pretty sure she said when she prayed and read her scriptures each day, she felt the spirit more strongly than on the days she didn’t.

She then told us how her favorite color is purple! And her scriptures are purple. She said when she reads her purple scriptures it makes her happy, and she feels the spirit even more because they are her favorite color!

I absolutely LOVED the LIGHT she shared, along with her simple, yet fervent testimony of the things in life that bring her JOY and help her feel the SPIRIT! She ended by saying, “I hope you have a favorite color that helps you feel the spirit.”

I pulled my notebook out and wrote down her quote, which I have already written in my quote book! As many of you know, my favorite color is green! From the time I can remember, I have been drawn to the color green.

I have a tendency to surround myself with it! I’ve often wondered why? But I received my answer from the wisdom of a child – because my favorite color helps me feel the spirit!

Colors are God’s gift to us! In the words of Victor Hugo – “To love beauty is to see light”. Christ is the light of the world bringing us comfort, hope, peace and joy. I definitely felt the spirit at church, and I’m so grateful for the courage it took for sweet Halle to get up and bear her testimony of the things in her life that help her feel the spirit. Thank heaven for children, and our favorite colors!
