Looking For Some Good Books To Read?

From the time I was little, I have loved to read!  As a child I had severe asthma and was sick a lot.  Reading became my refuge and took my mind off not being able to go outside and play.  I read every book I could get my hands on.  The school librarian was my favorite friend!  I read many books every year up until I had kids.  Then for some reason, my reading came to a screeching halt, especially when we added kids number two and three to the mix.  I read to them every day, but my own reading fell by the wayside.  When I was finally able to come up for air during those challenging early years of raising kids, I decided it was ok to take some time for me again.  I jumped back into reading and haven’t quit since.  During Covid, reading kept me sane in addition to my crafting projects.

I have a friend who is also an avid reader, and she let me borrow a book called, “Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker” by Jennifer Chiaverini. (https://a.co/d/9heBU6B) It’s clear in her writing that Jennifer is an avid seamstress, and evident in her “Elm Creek Quilts” series that she is also an accomplished quilter.  She also likes to write about the contributions of women throughout history, which I absolutely love learning about!

The original “Elm Creek Quilts” novels were comprised of twenty-one glorious books.  I would order two at a time during Covid and devoured them all cover to cover.  Initially she intended to end the series with “The Wedding Quilt.”  However, she recently wrote two more books, “The Museum of Lost Quilts” and “The World’s Fair Quilt.”

I am hopeful she will continue with more.  Many of her books are historical fiction, which is one of my favorite genres.  I love history, and I love it even more when there is a meaningful story involved.

Some of her other books focus on women in World War II – “Canary Girls,” “Switchboard Soldiers” and “Resistance Women”, all excellent reads.  There’s another one on the women’s suffrage movement, “The Women’s March.”  And then there are seven more on all different historical subjects with women as the focal point.

I love her writing style in addition to the topics.  So, if you want to jump down this rabbit hole with me, order one of Jennifer Chiaverini’s books on Amazon and let me know if you love it as much as I did!

Whether you are sending kids back to school or not, summer has been busy, and we all deserve a break.  What better way than to curl up in your favorite chair with a good book and a Diet Coke – or whatever your favorite caffeinated beverage may be. 😊  I know it’s still summer, and has been sweltering hot here in Utah, but I still love to wrap up in one of my “Minky Couture” or “Saranoni” blankets as well when I read.

My wish for you this week is to find some time for yourself.  Slow down and find an enjoyable book to read.  Have a wonderful week!

Love Ya, Les 😊
