Favorite Ribbon Sources
/Ribbon is one of my greatest weaknesses! My granddaughter came in and looked at my collection a few months ago and simply said, “Grandma Les, you have a ribbon problem.” She’s not wrong, but it’s a lovely problem to have.
A few weeks ago, I received a request asking where I find my ribbon. The simple answer is all over the place! However, I will attempt to disclose my favorite places for you to start or add to your own ribbon problem, I mean collection, as well. 😊
May Arts

“May Arts” has been one of my favorite go-to ribbon sources for years now. If you have a business with a tax I.D. number, you can purchase from them wholesale and the best part is they have no minimum order. You can order as much or little as you like, however you must order an entire spool, they don’t do cuts by the yard. There are times they offer free shipping, but most of the time shipping is not free. I love their high-quality ribbons, twines, and cordings. You will find lovely velvet ribbons, double-face satins, printed twill-tapes, baker’s twine in every color combination you can imagine, sheers, solids, plaids, stripes, in every width you desire. You also get a large amount of yardage per roll at extremely reasonable prices. Their website and shopping cart is the perfect place to get lost in! If you only want a spool or two of their ribbon, they do offer some of their ribbons through Amazon. Just go to Amazon and type in “May Arts ribbon” in the search bar. It arrives faster through Amazon as well.
Amazon
Speaking of Amazon, you will be surprised at what you can find there. You just have to be a little more careful in your searching. They do carry some extremely nice ribbons though. I particularly like their “Mayreel” silk velvet ribbons with frayed edges that come in various widths. I also like their “Ribbli” brand ribbons. Especially the double-face satins that come with many yards to a spool, great quality, and the price is right. This brand also offers other lovely options in sheer silk chiffons with frayed edges, linen-looks, and soft cottons. I avoid ribbon with wired edges because it doesn’t store well and I prefer a softer drape than big bows with stiff wire edges that are pokey. But they have all that as well if that’s what you like. It’s all about personal preference. The thing with Amazon, is that you can pretty much tell by looking at it in the picture if it’s going to be a nice quality ribbon or not. For satin, always look for “double-face.” That means both sides look the same with a smooth and silky finish making bow tying easier. I also noticed the “Keypan” brand looks nice as well. I could go on forever on this one, but I will just mention one more.
I do love their printed twill tape ribbons from “Sisterly Market.” They have some that say “YOU’RE THE BEST” - “THANK YOU” – “YAY!” – “OH BABY” – SMILEY FACES – HEARTS - “THINKING OF YOU” – “YOU GOT THIS” – “BEST DAY EVER” – “CONGRATS” – “GOOD LUCK” – “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” – “I LOVE YOU” - and a few others. Here is the direct link to these. There are other less expensive brands that look identical, but I love to support this brand in particular.
Studio Carta

I found this lovely ribbon source a few years ago. It is a woman owned company. Angela and her daughter are wonderful to work with! I wanted some custom “Candle in the Window” ribbon, and the process was so much fun!
I love my custom printed ribbon in addition to their other non-printed ribbons all made in Italy where Angela was born and grew up. It is my dream someday to visit her shop in Massachusetts. You can even order samples to see the colors and weaves before you order any quantity. My favorite spools of ribbon here are the Drittofilo cotton ribbon, Metallic Line tight weave cotton ribbon ¼” width - loose weave cotton ribbon, and tight weave cotton ribbon. They offer many options of yardage lengths and widths. You will love whatever you choose from this high-quality store and will soon desire to go back and order a spool of every color and width! They also offer high-quality Italian crafted ribbon scissors and many other delicious accessories as well. You never want to cut your ribbon with the junk drawer scissors in the kitchen!

Another great option for custom printed or unprinted ribbons and baker’s twine that is a little thinner in diameter than “May Arts”.
If you are looking to purchase ribbon by the yard, or by the spool, locally here in Utah these are my favorite stores.
Knot + Spool
This store is well worth the drive to Holladay at the far south-east end of the Salt Lake Valley. They have the largest and best selection of ribbon in Utah that I know of. They also have unique items in home décor, kids, baby, and gift area of the store as well. Their holiday displays are worth going just to see.
Amy Boutique
If you drive to “Knot + Spool” you’ll want to make a stop at Amy Boutique also in Holladay. Amy has two stores, just a few feet away from each other and both are a treasure trove for unique clothing, gifts, baby, kids, teens, candy by the pound, and a ribbon section as well. Also, worth the drive to see Amy’s holiday displays as well. If you go to Amy Boutique be sure to eat at one of my two favorite lunch places just steps away. “Caputos Market & Deli” has three locations, but my favorite is the Holladay one. A great place for a quick sandwich. I often get mine to go if I’m by myself. The other spot that will take a little longer is “Taqueria 27” also just steps away from Amy Boutique. My favorite item on the menu is actually the 8 piece Grilled Shrimp Tostada Bites with balsamic glaze. They are so yummy and just the right amount of food for lunch!
Jolley’s Corner
Jolley’s is another fun boutique shop similar to Amy Boutique on 1300 South and 1676 East in Salt Lake City. Jolley’s also has unique clothing, home décor, a fresh flower shop, baby, kids, candy by the pound, and a small ribbon by-the-yard section.
The Dainty Pear Co.

If you’re up in Midway, Utah on the back side of the Wasatch Front, near Park City and Deer Valley, “The Dainty Pear Co.” is a must stop place. You will want to go at lunch time as their quaint “Olive Press Café” has the most delicious French inspired food menu around. Tastes just like it came from France. They have a large European food section, home décor, clothing, Swedish candy, and unique gift items in addition to a small ribbon by the yard section as well. Midway is coming into it’s own with many other boutique type shops and food stops in a small town walking distance area.
The Spool House
This is a newer store closer to home, located in Farmington, Utah. It is located on Historic Main Street in a quaint remodeled home. They have a large ribbon by the yard selection, along with home décor, fresh flowers, gift items, holiday décor, classes, and much more. And if you come here, you might want to grab some lunch across the street at “Caffe Torino.” They specialize in serving sweet and savory crepes. They do have odd hours of operation. Closed – Monday through Wednesday. Open – Thursday through Sunday: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (crepe grills turn off at 1:00). Even with the strange hours, they are worth planning your Spool House trip around to enjoy a yummy crepe. My favorite is the Monte Cristo.
As you can see, I’ve given you many sources for ribbon online, in addition to ribbon shopping experiences in Utah with lunch involved. These are my top favorites, there are more, but this will keep you busy for a good long while.
My wish for you this week is to take some time for yourself. Grab a friend, plan a ribbon shopping day, and go to lunch. Be sure to buy a few yards of happy spring ribbon to lift your spirits. Beautiful ribbon always puts a smile on your face!
You can go to any of my favorites listed here, or venture out to find some of your own. The promise you must make is that if you find an irresistible ribbon store, please be sure to message me and let me know where it is! One can’t ever acquire enough ribbon!
Happy Spring,
Love Ya, Les 😊
