Looking For An Uplifting Diversion?

In four weeks, Candle in the Window will be posting our 200th post!  Thank you for supporting this forum to bring LIGHT into the daily lives of those you come in contact with!  This includes family, friends, and friends you may not even know but bring LIGHT to anyway through daily acts of kindness and service!  We’ll be doing another giveaway to celebrate this time we’ve spent together, and I think you’ll love it!

Some may not know this about me, but I am an avid reader!  My favorite genres?  I love clean, historical fiction especially when it involves anything to do with England, or the U.S.A.  The best way to learn history for me, is through stories about people and the places they lived or traveled.  I have many favorite authors, Corrie Ten Boom, Jennifer Chiaverini, Lisa Wingate, Shana Abe, but I am unashamedly an avid Jane Austen fan!  My favorite Jane books are “Emma” and “Pride and Prejudice” with the handsome and debonaire Mr. Knightly and Mr. Darcey.  I have all the books and movies and read and watch them more than I should.  If I’m working on a project, I will turn one of them on.  I’ve seen them so often, I don’t have to be glued to the screen to know what’s happening.  I can see it all in my mind and even recite much of it from memory.

Recently I came across a series of books I have fallen in love with!  If you’ve been feeling the heavy weight of life lately, and are looking for an uplifting, non-predictable escape this series might be for you!  They are set in 1883-1884 London.  The name of this series is “The Unselected Journals Of Emma M. Lion Volumes 1-8,” which are available now on Amazon.  The main character is Emma M. Lion.  Currently there are 8 books and from what I’ve heard, Beth Brower, the author is planning on a total of 16!

I’m an old-fashioned book reader and prefer to hold the actual book.  This allows me to mark the passages that have particular meaning to me, and I often go back and reference them.  I must warn you, for me at least, it was a bit of a struggle getting through the first book and a little into the second until I began to understand the background and what fun I was in for as I read the witty twists and turns Emma’s life would take me.  I would imagine the places she visited and often found myself back in London – a city I fell in love with last year.  Once I got into the story, I couldn’t put them down and finished all 8 available books in a month’s time.  My only regret is that I didn’t savor them longer instead of devouring them as I did.  And now I must wait another full year until volume 9 is released . . .  If you have any clean good reads to share, please feel free to suggest them here!  I need more happy diversions. 😊

I’ve been doing some crafting, and floraling in between reading and will be sharing those projects in the weeks to come, but I wanted to throw a little teaser out for the upcoming giveaway!  So stay tuned and make sure you don’t miss out!

My wish for you this week is to find a way to turn off the negativity coming at us from every angle, and look for ways to bring LIGHT and joy back into your heart and soul!  You might want to order volumes 1 and 2 and become acquainted with Emma M. Lion, she is quite a delight!  Have a wonderful week!

Love Ya, Les 😊
